Environmental Specialist

SUMMIT LIABILITY SOLUTIONS INC. is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Environmental Assessment Services (EAS) Division as an Environmental Specialist (Competition #17-09-0182). This position is permanent full-time and will require both field and office work, operating from Weyburn, Saskatchewan.


You will carry out your duties in consultation with the Regional Manager/Project Manager, EAS on all matters. The primary duties include: organizing/managing work plans for selected Oil & Gas and Energy Sector clients, scheduling and follow up with office staff to ensure necessary field and office work is executed in a timely fashion. Specifically, primary duties will relate to reclamation, remediation, environmental monitoring, and baseline assessments. You will draft, review and submit all daily field reports, diagrams, site observations as well as make site recommendations. You may also be responsible for technical reporting and support for regulatory applications. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the quality, cost efficiency and timeliness of deliverables.

You will be supported by the entire Summit organization which consists of a dynamic team of Professional Engineers, Biologists, Chemists and Agrologists, technical administrators, business development professionals, and an in-house IT department.

Candidates must be self-motivated and be prepared to provide leadership, and be able to work in a multidisciplinary, fast paced project team environment and able to undertake a variety of project related tasks related to EAS.

  • A science based University Degree or College Diploma from a recognized institution
  • Professional Designation or potential to obtain designation (P.Ag, P.Biol, R.P. Bio, P.Eng)
  • A minimum of 3 years' direct experience in the environmental industry (Oil and Gas, Energy and Utilities)
  • Ability to undertake a variety of project specific tasks related to reclamation, remediation, and spill response
  • Environmental monitoring experience
  • Broad experience and extensive knowledge of the Federal and Provincial regulatory framework, specifically in Alberta and Saskatchewan
  • Experience with data management, analysis and interpretation, and determination of appropriate mitigation measures
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to navigate communications effectively and provide time-sensitive solutions to regulators, contractors, and clients
  • Ability to take initiative, ownership and work independently with excellent multitasking and problem solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel to remote locations
